3 Tips on Bootstrapping Your Business

  • Develop an accountability plan.  Some people starting out will create a business plan; while existing entrepreneurs will use a strategic plan to achieve goals set at the start of the year.  Regardless of the plan, create a plan of action that will hold you and your team accountable weekly, monthly and annually.   An example can be, by the 1st quarter of this year, ABC company will have $10,000 in sales.  Your accountability plan will cover the actions necessary to achieve $10,000 in sales.
  • Understand the numbers.  Don’t operate in the dark.  Understand who your customers are and how many of them you will need to cover operating expenses and to make a profit.  Until you understand the numbers, keep your cost to a bare minimum.  As you operate your business throughout the year, there may be trends that will help you forecast future sales. For instance, your sales may peak the first of the month as you host your monthly radio show.  How can you create an action plan around the radio show to increase sales that will cover operating expenses throughout the month? Consult your professional advisers in understanding your numbers.
  • Build a BRAIN team. Surround yourself with other entrepreneurs or professional advisers that will add value to you as an entrepreneur and to the growth of your business. Meet with your team on a regular basis. Make sure that you have a clear plan on how you want your advisers to assist you.  Never attempt to achieve business success alone.  Utilize resources available to help you operate and grow your business.  In the long run, you will be glad you did.

Big Think Strategy: How to Leverage Bold Ideas and Leave Small Thinking Behind

Business leaders need bold strategies to stay relevant and win. Traditional approaches to strategic planning based on safe, low-risk methods that produce predictable results do not equip businesses with the tools necessary for creating lasting impact. Companies must be willing to open themselves up to approaching strategy from a creative perspective. To create several systematic methodologies for creative problem solving in the development and execution of corporate strategy, Dr. Bernd H. Schmitt utilizes research in psychology and marketing and his experiences in music, fashion, telecom, financial services, and travel . He reveals how to bring bold thinking into your business by sourcing big ideas and executing them creatively.
